Lock-seal is an extruded Interlocking seals male & female profiles manufactured using high tear strength silicone rubber extrusion. The diaphragm is applied to the lay- up and positioned precisely, aligning both parts of the seal. The two parts are interlocked and vacuum is applied to the through bag breach unit. It can be bonded to high performance 600% elongation silicone rubber membrane in order to produce a rubber diaphragm capable of a working temperature of 230°C. All diaphragms can be customised to complex 3-D shapes giving all round intensification. One part of the seal can be fitted to a suitable tool base plate with the second section of seal being fitted to a high performance rubber roll over apron. Because this system has no aluminium manifold or support frame the diaphragm can be rolled and folded for convenient storage. Robust and reusable, the Lock-seal system eliminates bagging film and sealant tape. It quickly applied with low operator skills, because it not requiring pleating as with nylon and sealant tape. Because the seal is not energised by vacuum as with VCS and Tri-seal, or positively sealed as the with Tape-Seal, Aerovac do not recommend this system for autoclave use, the idea application being de-bulk and consolidation or oven cures were vacuum is pulled constantly through out the cure.
